A new drama of clandestine migration struck off the coast of Sfax. The maritime units of the National Guard and the National Army rescued 29 irregular migrants, mainly from sub-Saharan Africa, after the sinking of their boat off El Aouabed, said Houcem Eddine Jebabli, spokesperson for the National Guard.
Despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services, eight bodies were drafted. Three of the survivors, in critical state, were transferred by the civil protection teams to the University Hospital of Sfax to receive the necessary care.
Research operations continue to find possible disappeared, while the maritime authorities are increasing their efforts in this area often borrowed by candidates for exile to Europe.
