The teams of the National Instance for the Safety of Food Products in the governorate of Ben Arous, in coordination with the administration of the port of Radès, proceeded to the destruction of approximately 257 tonnes of food improper for consumption, according to a press release published this Thursday by the body.
The destroyed products included large amounts of expired food, including 139 tonnes of garlic, 17.206 tonnes of citrus fruits, 50 tonnes of frozen fish and 50,752 tonnes of bananas. These foodstuffs had exceeded their expiration date between 2016 and 2022.
The body specified that this destruction operation was carried out after the completion of the legal and health procedures in force, within the framework of a periodic campaign carried out in coordination with ports and customs centers.
In its press release, it underlined the importance of the partnership with the administration of the port of Radès to combat dangerous food products, claiming that this operation is part of the strengthening of food import control and the protection of consumer health.
