The President of the Republic, Kais Saïed, received on Wednesday at the Palais de Carthage La Cheffe du Government, Sarra Zaâfrani Zenzri, and the Minister of Finance, Mischkat Slama Khaldi, to discuss the 2026 finance bill. He reaffirmed that this text must above all reflect the social role of the State and promote social justice.

According to a press release from the presidency, the head of state insisted on the need to adopt “an innovative thought” and to design the finance bill around new concepts in order to meet social expectations.

Two major objectives have been set: offer new perspectives to marginalized young people and rationalize public spending by reducing funding intended for institutions deemed not profitable.

Fight against corruption and tax evasion

During the meeting, Kais Saïed criticized the Tunisian Financial Analysis Commission (CTAF), believing that it has not fully assumed its role. He also mentioned the challenges linked to tax evasion and the corruption networks, reiterating Tunisia’s commitment to advance in the path of reforms.

The president stressed that the policy of “counting on oneself” remains relevant, despite criticism. Faced with the inheritance of mismanagement accumulated over the decades, he affirmed his determination to open up new opportunities for young people, establish real justice and revive sustainable growth. “The Tunisian people will never accept halftone solutions,” he said.
