The Minister of the Environment, Habib Obaid, gave this Wednesday, May 14, the official kickoff of the national campaign for cleaning the beaches, from Raoued beach, in the governorate of Ariana, reports the TAP.
This initiative is part of a program covering approximately 200 km of ribs spread over 13 coastal governorates, from Tabarka to Médenine. Each site will benefit from two to four cleaning interventions per week.
In parallel, more than 200 beaches, extending over 5,000 hectares, will be the subject of daily operations, two to four passages per day.
The campaign, which aims to prepare the beaches for the summer season, will continue until September 2025.
In addition, the ministry is working on the organization of the temporary occupation of the maritime public domain, in particular by cafes, restaurants and other economic activities. Operators will not be able to exceed 50 % of the surface of the beaches.
Since January 2025, efforts have also been launched to combat coastal erosion, with interventions planned in Bizerte, Gammarth, Sousse, Mahdia, Monastir, and to the island of Djerba. The work will start in September or October 2025 after tenders.
