Friday September 12, 2025, The Ministry of Health has officially launched the National Plan for Management of Cerebral Vascular Accidents (stroke)aimed at reducing deaths and handicaps linked to this pathology.

Each year, Tunisia records between 18,000 and 24,000 cases of stroke, making it the first cause of acquired disability and one of the main causes of mortality. The ministry underlines the urgency of strengthening care and guaranteeing accessible and fair care throughout the territory.

Three pillars to improve care

The plan is based on three main axes:

  • Territorial equity: ensure the same treatment opportunities in all regions of the country.
  • Telemedicine and virtual hospital: integrate digital technologies to facilitate the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.
  • Mobilization of medical skills: strengthen the capacities of health professionals to improve the quality of services.

Collaboration with the European Union

The ministry organized, in partnership with the European Union via the “Health Azziza” program, a workshop bringing together experts, national and international, for the implementation of the plan. The initiative aims to position Tunisia as a reference model in terms of assumption of stroke.
