The Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Africa announced yesterday, Monday, May 4, 2020, that new therapies based on traditional pharmacopoeia against COVID-19 are under rigorous tests before their large-scale trials.

“Even when treatments come from traditional and nature practice, it is essential to establish their effectiveness and innovity thanks to rigorous clinical trials.

Medicinal plants such as the Artemisia Annua are considered as possible treatments of COVID-19, but trials should be carried out to assess their effectiveness and determine their undesirable effects, “said WHO, in a press release quoted by AFP.

The organization indicates, on the other hand, that the use of products intended for the treatment of COVID-19, but which have not been the subject of strict investigations, can put populations in danger.

Note that a drug based on natural plants presented as a remedy against the coronavirus has been widely used in Madagascar. The Malagasy President has indeed ordered to distribute to the population and in schools a herbal tea called COVVID ASO, based on Artemisia and other herbs, supposed to give results in seven days.
