The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed, this Tuesday, April 21, 2020, that the new coronavirus is of animal origin and that all the evidence available converge on this. The WHO specifies, also that the virus discovered in China at the end of last year was not manipulated or produced in the laboratory, reports the Reuters agency.

“All available evidence suggests that the virus is of animal origin and that it has not been manipulated or built in a laboratory or elsewhere,” said WHO spokesperson Fadela Chaib, during a press conference in Geneva.

“It is likely that the virus is of animal origin and most likely has its ecological reservoir in bats, but the way the virus has gone from bats to humans remains to be seen and discovering,” added the WHO spokesperson, who wondered about how the virus had crossed the species barrier to reach the man.
