What position for the Palestinians?

Israel and the United Arab Emirates signed this “historic peace agreement” on Thursday, August 13, August 13, allowing these two countries to normalize their relations.

The Palestinians, a priori, opposed this agreement even if the United Arab Emirates assured Thursday that the normalization agreement of relations with Israel was a “daring step” which will make it possible to achieve “a solution to two states” for the Palestinian people, with in particular the suspension of the annexation of Palestinian territories.

The president of the Palestinian authority Mahmoud Abbas summoned an “emergency meeting” Thursday evening of the Palestinian management to discuss the normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. At the end of this meeting, the Palestinian management should announce its reaction to a normalization already criticized by the Islamists of Hamas.

Indeed, the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, in power in the Gaza Strip, said that this agreement “does not serve the Palestinian cause” and constitutes a “white check” for the continuation of “occupation” by the Hebrew State. “This agreement is rejected and condemned.

It does not serve the Palestinian cause but is considered to be a continuation of the denial of the rights of the Palestinian people, “Hazem Qassem, Hamas spokesperson, told AFP.
