The World Health Organization has expressed its hope that the elimination of the coronavirus pandemic will be completed in less than two years, a shorter period than it was necessary to eliminate the Spanish flu in 1918.

“We hope to put an end to this pandemic in less than two years,” said WHO director Tedros Adhanom, on Friday, August 21, 2020, stressing the possibility of controlling the emergence of the virus in a shorter period than that known in 1918.

He explained that globalization and interactions have helped the virus spread to a dazzling speed “but that despite this, the world today has the advantage of having a much more advanced technology and better knowledge to stop the spread of the disease”.
