Twenty-five countries are calling for the immediate stop of the war in Gaza

Twenty-five states, including France, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, published a joint declaration on Monday, July 21, calling for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. This press release, written by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, denounces the seriousness of the humanitarian situation and criticizes the management of aid by Israel. The signatories hope to put pressure by diplomatic way to put an end to a conflict that has been going on for more than 21 months.

Humanitarian aid deemed ineffective and dangerous

The countries denounce the aid distribution model set up by Israel, in particular the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), supported by the United States. According to them, this system feeds instability, deprives civilians of their dignity and exposes the population to serious risks. Since the end of May, the UN has identified 875 dead among the Palestinians trying to access the help, including 674 near the GHF sites.

The statement judges the refusal of the Israeli government “unacceptable” to guarantee the delivery of essential aid. The population of Gaza, subject to a strict blockade, is today on the verge of famine.

Calls for the release of hostages and the cessation of colonization

The text also calls for the release of the hostages held by Hamas. The signatories condemn their captivity, described as “cruel”. They also oppose any modification of the territory or demography in occupied Palestinian areas, and ask for the immediate end of colonization.

In addition to the countries mentioned, the list of signatories notably includes Australia, Norway, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Poland and New Zealand. All argue for a political solution and respect for international humanitarian law.
