Tunisia took part this Wednesday, April 9, 2025 in Cairo, in the 2ᵉ ministerial meeting of the Khartoum process, a framework for interregional dialogue on migration between African and European countries.
Represented by Mohamed Ben Ayed, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, the Tunisian delegation pleaded for a global approach to the migratory phenomenon, going beyond the simple security responses.
In his intervention, Ben Ayed insisted on the importance of attacking the deep causes of irregular migration and strengthening international cooperation, in particular to support voluntary return programs in respect of human rights. He also alerted to the negative consequences of brain flight for southern countries.
The meeting ended with the adoption of the “Cairo Declaration” and a new action plan, focused on the fight against milking networks, the promotion of regular migration and the development of countries of origin.
On the sidelines of the work, several bilateral exchanges have reaffirmed the support of international partners to Tunisian efforts in this area.
