Tunisia took part in the World Internet Summitheld November 6-10 in Wuzhen, China. The Minister of Communication Technologies, Sofiène Hemissi, represented the country during a major international event dedicated to the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) and global cybersecurity.

Tunisia advocates a global framework for AI

In his interventions, the Tunisian minister insisted on the urgency of a coherent international mechanism to regulate the uses of artificial intelligence, the economic and ethical impacts of which now go beyond national borders.

He highlighted the Tunisian experience in digital regulation, citing the country’s efforts to reconcile technological innovation and data protection.

Hemissi also proposed the creation of a collaboration framework between China and Arab countries, to strengthen regional digital governance and ensure equitable sharing of technological benefits between nations.

Digital security at the heart of the summit

Accompanied by the Tunisian Embassy in Beijing, the Tunisian delegation participated in the opening ceremony chaired by Wang Jintao, Vice Minister of the China Cyberspace Administration (CAC).

The summit brought together senior government officials, international experts and representatives from multilateral organizations, all committed to finding common solutions to the growing risks related to AI and cybersecurity.

The debates focused on the need to develop effective regulatory frameworks to prevent the abusive use of artificial intelligence and guarantee data security. Participants unanimously affirmed that digital progress must serve human well-being and the goals of sustainable development.

Alongside the plenary sessions, several thematic workshops brought together universities, research centers and experts from the technology sector, promoting the exchange of experiences around responsible and inclusive Internet governance.

For Tunisia, this participation marks a new stage in its digital diplomacy, focused on international cooperation and the promotion of an ethical and equitable technological model.
