Tunisia strongly condemned the autodafé of several copies of the Holy Quran by extremists in the Kingdom of Sweden, qualifying this act of “garish provocation” to the feelings of Muslims around the world.
In a statement published on Monday, the Department of Foreign Affairs, denounced this autodafé, believing that it is an “odious act” which has no kinship with the exercise of freedom of expression.
This act constitutes a manifest violation of the common universal principles and values of human rights, just as it is an incentive to violence, hatred and contempt for religions, we read in the same press release.
And the department to add that Tunisia continues to prevent against these serious practices “rejected and condemned”, calling for this reason to combine efforts in order to disseminate the values of tolerance and coexistence between religions and respect for the inviolability of the holy places and the sacred books of the peoples.
