The Tiktok platform, known for its short and viral videos, could stop operating on American territory on Sunday, January 19.
This decision stems from the application of a law adopted last March, invoking national security issues. Despite months of judicial battles, the United States Supreme Court rejected the request for suspension of this law on Friday, imposing on the Chinese parent company bytedance to sell its American activities before this deadline.
With 170 million users in the United States, Tiktok represents a major digital space for expression and social interaction. However, the American authorities justify their position by affirming that the sale of the company is necessary to avoid possible risks linked to data confidentiality and foreign interference.

If the application does not comply with legal requirements, Internet access providers and application platforms will be required to block its download and updates.
