The race against the clock to try to save the little Rayan, fell into a 32 -meter -deep well in northern Morocco, is reminiscent of the many children’s rescue operations around the world. Three of them particularly marked the spirits!

Omayra, 60 hours of agony

First there is the case of Omayra Sánchez, this young Colombian who died at the age of 13 on November 16, 1985, victim of the eruption of the Nevado Del Ruiz volcano which took place on November 13, 1985.

Imprisoned for three days and three nights in the water and the mud between concrete blocks and other debris, it attracts the attention of the media and upsets the whole world.

Videos of Omayra Sánchez chatting with workers, smiling and gestures to video cameras go around the world. But after sixty hours of agony, she died, later becoming the symbol of this tragedy which left more than 25,000 dead and almost as many victims.

12 adolescents blocked in a cave

On June 23, 2018, twelve teenagers aged 11 to 16 and their 25 -year -old coach entered the Tham Luang cave in Thailand after a match, and found themselves trapped by waters for 17 days.

The 12 adolescents and their coach, stuck in flooded underground galleries, four kilometers from the surface, had been found by British speleologists divers after nine days of research.

It will then have taken eight days and the work of hundreds of Thai soldiers and foreign divers to succeed in evacuating the 12 adolescents and their coach who all came out of the cave after an unprecedented international rescue operation.

Their incredible story has aroused intense media interest, with more than a thousand journalists from around the world.

Julen Rosello, fell into a well
25 cm in diameter and 100 m deep

Julen Rosello was less likely. Accidentally fallen into an abandoned well of 25 centimeters in diameter and more than 100 meters deep, on January 13, 2019, it was found dead after 13 days of a rescue operation which mobilized enormous means.

As is the case for little Rayan, the rescuers dug a parallel tunnel before piercing a horizontal gallery of almost four meters to reach the well.

The child was found dead and the autopsy concluded that he died on the day of his fall, of a head trauma.
