The USA block the draft Franco-Tunisian resolution at the UN

The United States has announced that they did not support the Tunisia and France resolution project on the coronavirus.

This three -page project, submitted on April 22, calls on the 15 members of the Security Council to “enhanced coordination” against the coronavirus and a “cessation of hostilities” in countries at its agenda, according to the text obtained by AFP.

Without giving any detail, Washington announced “not being able to support the current resolution draft”, despite an agreement given 24 hours earlier

According to several sources, the cause of the rejection of the project is a part of the text which underlines “the urgent need to support all countries such as the relevant entities of the United Nations system, including specialized health agencies”, alluding to the World Health Organization (WHO) accused by Donald Trump. The United States, let us remember, even suspended its contribution to the financing of the organization.

At the beginning of April, Tunisia failed to adopt a first resolution calling for “urgent international action” to reduce the repercussions of the coronavirus.

This project had confirmed the call of the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, “an immediate cease-fire worldwide for humanitarian reasons”.
