Following the violent earthquake that shaken Istanbul yesterday morning, the Tunisia Embassy in Ankara announced the immediate establishment of a follow -up cell, in coordination with the Consulate General of Tunisia in Istanbul, in order to ensure close support to members of the Tunisian community.

In a statement released on its official Facebook page, the embassy called its nationals present in the affected areas to report without delay to its services or those of the Consulate. It also urges them to strictly comply with the safety instructions and precautionary measures decreed by the Turkish authorities.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale, hit the region of Istanbul. According to the Turkish Catastrophes and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD), the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Marmara Sea, about 7 kilometers deep, off the Silivri district.

The latest provisional assessment, communicated by the Turkish authorities, reports 12 dead, more than 120 injured and important material damage in several districts of the megalopolis. Electricity cuts and service interruptions have also been reported.

Tunisian diplomatic services ensure close contact with local authorities to follow the evolution of the situation and guarantee the safety of Tunisians established in the region.
