Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is safe after being evacuated on Saturday, April 15, following an explosion when he was about to give a speech in a western fishing port.
Several media, including the Kyodo news agency, reported that an object resembling a “smoke bomb” had been launched, but that there did not seem to be injured or visible damage to the scene.
A strong explosion was heard, but the Prime Minister took shelter and was not injured, while the police mastered a suspect on the scene, said public channel NHK.
This incident echoes the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, killed with an artisanal pistol last July when he campaigned for the legislative elections.
