The Norwegian Parliament adopted Thursday, November 16, 2023 a proposal asking the government to be ready to recognize a “independent” Palestinian state.
Parliament explains that this decision was made to have “a positive impact on a peace process” in the Middle East.
However, the condition stipulated in the proposal means that a decision in the direction of recognition should not be immediate.
Filed by the two parties, Labor and Centrist The proposal collected an overwhelming majority thanks to the support of the Conservatives, the main opposition training, and other political forces, reports Le Monde.
“The Storting (the Norwegian Monocameral Parliament) asks the government to be ready to recognize Palestine as an independent state when recognition may have a positive impact on a peace process, without making a final peace agreement,” said the text.
