On Friday March 14, 2025, Iraq announced the death of Abdallah Maki, known as Abu Khadija, in the province of Al-Anbar. The latter held the post of governor for Iraq and Syria within the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization.
In a message published on Platform X, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Chia Al-Soudani said the Iraqis pursued their victories against terrorism.
Considered one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and internationally, Abu Khadija was a key member of the Isis hierarchy and had been mentioned as a possible successor to the “Caliph”, the supreme leader of the organization.
This announcement comes several months after the Iraqi government warnings concerning the reorganization of the terrorist organization, especially after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria last December. The Iraqi government reported that the terrorist group had started to restructure after getting their hands on weapons stocks following the collapse of the Syrian army.
Although Iraq announced in late 2017 the victory against Isis, after the organization has taken control of large territories in Iraq and Syria, some of its cells are still active.
