The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, told journalists on Sunday that she wanted to impose a ban on entry to migrants who were expelled from the European Union.
During a press conference in Brussels, Von Der Leyen said that the European Commission plans to propose legislation on Tuesday for the dismissal of migrants illegally present in the EU.
She pointed out that this is an integral part of the European Union asylum policy and added that a regulation should be proposed with simpler and clearer rules, for example to prevent people from hiding and facilitating the expulsion of third -party nationals who do not have the right to stay in the EU.
The president of the European Commission insisted that the EU will take more strict measures in the event of a security threat, while committing to respecting international law and fundamental rights.
The European Commission said that the EU’s proposal would go much further than German regulations, as it should apply to a larger number of cases and could remain in force longer.
The German authorities already impose a temporary entry ban for migrants expelled under the German law. With regard to condemned criminals, the law stipulates that they are prohibited from entering Germany for at least 10 years.
