A dozen countries, including Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Argentina, Turkey, Iran and Algeria have expressed their interest in membership of the BRICS, pending Tunisia.

Among these countries, four have officially already submitted membership requests. It is Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Iran.

In 2020, the contribution of the BRICS Bloc (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) to the global gross domestic product (GDP) reached, 31.5% against 30.7% for the G7 in purchasing power parity. The G7 is made up of the United States, Germany, Canada, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.

Acorn Macro Consulting, the British Research Institute author of this study notes that the contribution of the group of emerging countries to world GDP should be strengthened in the coming years, in particular with the expansion of the BRICS block to new countries.

In economic difficulty following the delay in the finalization of a loan agreement with the IMF, Tunisia would study the possibility of membership in the BRICS group to find a support that is both financial, economic but also political.

The member countries of the Brics group often have common positions on international policy issues, in particular with regard to relations with Western countries and international financial institutions.
