While Tunisia has counted on the Algerian market to relaunch its tourism, Algeria has just announced that its borders will remain closed until the end of the pandemic.

“All the borders of Algeria will remain closed until the end of the COVVI-19 pandemic,” said President Abdelmadjid Tebbboune, faced with an increase in cases of contamination.

Indeed, the Algerian head of state ordered “maintaining the closure of land, maritime and air borders until God releases us from this scourge”, according to a statement published by the official news agency APS and quoted by the AFP agency.

Algeria reported, last Friday, seven new deaths and 240 new cases of coronavirus contamination in the past 24 hours, a record. This is the highest assessment of COVVI-19 infections in Algeria since the first confirmed case recorded on February 17. Almost three weeks after the first deconfining measures, Algeria had recorded its highest increase in one day while the previous peak dated April 28 (199 cases).

Algeria has a total of 12,685 people confirmed and 885 deaths, 9066 healed patients and 48 in intensive care, said the spokesperson for the scientific committee for monitoring the development of the pandemic, during its daily press conference.

The head of government had announced that Tunisia hopes for a resumption of tourism activity at the beginning of July taking into account the advancement of the epidemiological situation. But according to the Minister of Tourism Mohamed Ali Toumi, the takeover will be ensured in a first stage by local tourists, then tourists from neighboring countries, including in particular Algeria.
