Two members of the staff of the Israel Embassy in Washington, a man and a woman, were killed on Wednesday evening near a Jewish museum, said internal security secretary Kristi Noem. The drama took place a few steps from the local FBI office, in a highly secure sector of the American capital.

According to the first elements of the investigation, a 30 -year -old man, from Chicago, was seen in the process of hundred steps in front of the museum before approaching a group of four people. He would then have released a handgun and opened fire, targeting the two Israeli diplomats.

The suspect immediately entered the museum after the shooting, where he was arrested by the security agents present on the scene. The police chief confirmed that the individual was in police custody.

Two sources close to the file indicated that the man would have shouted “Free Palestine” just before shooting, letting fear a political act.

The general prosecutor Pam Bondi went to the scene of the drama, accompanied by the former judge Jeanine Pirro, currently a prosecutor in Washington. The authorities announce that a police conference is scheduled for night to provide more details on the circumstances of this attack.

The investigation is underway to determine the exact motivations of the shooter and the possible diplomatic or security implications of this act.
