A violent explosion upset the tranquility of the Prenestino district, east of the Italian capital Rome, this Friday morning around 8:18 am. The incident occurred in a service station located on the Via Dei Gordiani, causing a large fire, visible several kilometers, and making at least 29 injured, according to local authorities.
According to the first elements of the investigation, a truck hit the driving of GPL gas (liquefied oil gas), causing a massive leak followed by two successive explosions. The breath was so powerful that it projected debris in the neighboring streets, damaging several vehicles and windows.
Impressive flames quickly ravaged the station and spread nearby, arousing a scene of general panic among the inhabitants.
The provisional assessment reports 29 injured people, including several police officers, a firefighter, and a seriously reached civilian, drawn in extremis from a vehicle on fire. Miraculously, no death has been reported so far.
