Rome makes the sweet eyes to Africa

The President of the Republic, Kais Saied has been in Italy since yesterday, to participate in the Italy – Africa summit. A conference, in which the highest leaders of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen, take part in Charles Michel, of the heads of state and the African ministers, take part.

During this summit, the Italian government must present its new strategic plan which aims to reassess the country’s approach to the African continent. One of the objectives of the new plan of the Italian government will be to tackle the deep economic causes which generate migratory flows from Africa to Europe, with a large number of arrivals in Italy.

The summit works take place for two days at the Madame Palace, headquarters of the Italian Republic Senate. As such, Kais Saied participated this Monday, January 29, 2024 on Monday, in Rome, in the opening of the summit where he notably held discussions with several heads of state, organizations and delegations including the president of the Italian council, Charles Michel, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the Italian council, Giorgia meloni, etc.

On the occasion of the summit, the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, also announced the upcoming launch of a development plan for Africa, baptized “Mattei Plan” for an envelope of around 5.5 billion euros.

It will be for Italy to promote a new partnership with Africa, based on energy as well as on migration issues. The leaders of African countries who participated in this Italy – Africa summit will have to present investment initiatives in several areas such as energy, infrastructure, health and education.
