The head of American diplomacy, Antony Blinken, announced, Friday, December 2, 2022, that the United States updated its list of countries which committed or tolerated violations in matters of religious freedom.

Washington has decided, among other things, to maintain Algeria in its list of countries to monitor and also designated Burma, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Iran, Nicaragua, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tadjikistan and Turkmenistan as a particularly worrying country.

Antony Blinken said in a statement that the United States has added the Islamic State to the Grand Sahara and western Africa to its black list of “particularly worrying” entities in matters of religious freedom.

The US Secretary of State had then indicated in a statement that the decision to add Algeria to this blacklist took place following a recommendation from the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF).
