Political violence in the United States and Shadows of the Middle East

The assassination of Charlie Kirk, a rising figure of American conservatism and founder of Turning Point USA, plunged the United States into a new phase of political tension. Opened on September 10 in Orem, Utah, on the eve of the 24th anniversary of the September 11, this murder aroused strong emotion in a deeply polarized country.

Coincidence with an Israeli strike against Hamas officials in Doha on September 9, quickly fueled speculation on social networks. No official link has been established, but temporal and symbolic proximity nourishes questions and suspicions.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was close to Donald Trump and recognized for his unconditional support in Israel as well as his criticism of radical Islam. During a debate on freedom of expression at the University of the Utah Valley, he was shot dead on the neck. Emergency transport to hospital, he did not survive. The Governor of Utah described the attack on “political assassination”, while Donald Trump denounced the “radical left” for having created a climate conducive to violence. His disappearance is a strategic loss for the conservative camp, but could also galvanize his base, strengthening the feeling of persecution of Maga activists.

The same day or the day before, Israel struck senior officials from Hamas in Doha, including negotiator Khalil al-Hayya. Five to six people were killed, mainly subordinate executives and a director’s son. Israel presented the operation as a response to an attack on Hamas having cost the lives to six Israelis. Qatar, an ally of the United States and mediator in the Gaza negotiations, denounced a “blatant violation” of its sovereignty. If no official link exists with the assassination of Kirk, the calendar gives events a strong symbolic load, on the eve of September 11.

On social networks, some theories suggest an orchestrated “False Falg” to divert the attention of Doha’s strike. Others claim that Kirk would have been “sacrificed” to strengthen American support for Israel or designate common enemies. These speculations, not verified, illustrate the growing distrust of official stories and the power of symbols in a context of extreme polarization.

Without a clear mobile, several actors could take advantage of this murder: the American left if the republican camp is weakened, the conservatives themselves by mobilizing their base, Israel according to certain conspiracy interpretations, and finally the extremes, which exploit each tragedy to accentuate the spiral of violence and distrust. The current investigation will have to clarify the facts to appease an already divided country.
