The United States opposed this Monday, May 17, for the third time in a week, to the adoption of a UN Security Council Declaration on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which called for “a cessation of violence” and “the protection of civilians, in particular children,” reports the AFP agency.
The text written by China, Tunisia and Norway was awarded on Sunday evening to the 15 members of the Security Council for approval on Monday. The United States has indicated that it “could not support an expression” of the Security Council at the moment.
Asked about the new refusal of the United States to ratify a common text for the Security Council, the United Nations spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, stressed the importance of affirmation of a united position of the council in the face of the conflict.
While Tunisia has failed twice to request a meeting of the UN Security Council, Tunis, continues its efforts in favor of the Palestinian cause against the background of the last events in Palestine.
As a non-permanent member country at the UN Security Council, Tunisia continues its contacts at the highest level with the member countries of the Council as well as with the influential “brothers and friends” to ensure international mobilization in favor of the Palestinian cause.
According to a press release made public, Friday, May 14, by the Presidency of the Republic, the Tunisian mobilization intervenes in consecration of the “historic” and “constant” position of the country in favor of the just Palestinian cause and the law of the Palestinians to peace and to an independent state.
