The arrival of a new variant of the COVID-19 BA.2 alone makes it fear an extension of the COVID epidemic, while saying of another pandemic. Scientists are worried.
In a pre-published study on the Biorxiv platform, Wuhan scientists (China) Bastion of the Convid-19, alert to the coronavirus named Neocov. A coronavirus already known for 10 years and its discovery in a community of bats in South Africa.
Also according to these scientists, the Neocov is associated with the Mers-Cov, which notably causes respiratory syndrome of the Middle East, more deadly than coronavirus.
In the current state, the virus cannot penetrate human pulmonary cells, but studies have concluded, that a mutation could cause such a transmission, hence the dangerousness, reports Futura Sciences.
“Neocov is a virus with, potentially, the mortality of the MERS-COV (30%) and the contagiousness of the SARS-COV-2. In addition, this virus would be different enough not to be recognized by antibodies neutralizing against the SARS-COV-2, “said Eric Muraille, research master at the National Fund for Scientific Research (FRS-FNRS) in Belgium.
