Billionaire Elon Musk aroused controversy in the United Kingdom by publishing comments on recent extreme right riots on his X platform.

Musk notably compared the judicial treatment of Muslims to that of far -right activists, suggesting more lenient treatment towards the former.

These remarks come in a context of violence that broke out following the dissemination of false online information concerning a knife attack.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described these riots as “far -right thug”. The government calls on social media companies, including X, to fight more effectively against disinformation. The Minister of Justice, Heidi Alexander, criticized the use by Musk of the term “civil war”, deeming her unacceptable. It also mentioned a possible strengthening of the online security law.

Musk continued the debate by questioning the government’s concern for all communities, not only Muslim. He then shared and commented on a pretending video showing a “Muslim patrol” attacking a pub at Birmingham, exhibiting him to his 193 million subscribers.
