Only 12 days after the start of the invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the two million people’s mark fleeing the fighting in Ukraine to find refuge abroad was exceeded last Tuesday, according to the latest UN counts.
The High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) identified exactly 2,011,312 refugees on its website, while the authorities and the UN expect the flow to intensify in the coming days.
“Today, the flood of refugees from Ukraine reaches two million,” tweeted the High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi. According to him, it is the fastest exodus that Europe has known since the Second World War.
Note that Poland alone welcomes more than half of all the refugees who have fled since the start of the Russian invasion.
