While we were worried about her fate, Marina Ovsyannikova, the Russian journalist who had brandished a sign against the war in Ukraine on Russian television was released.

Marina OVSYANNIKOVA, editor -in -chief of the Russian public channel Channel One had been arrested after interrupting the most watched news in Russia by brandishing a “No War” sign.

First held in the guard room of the headquarters of the Channel Ostankino television center in Moscow, she was sentenced to a fine and released, on the sidelines of her trial held today, Tuesday March 15, 2022.

Accused of “illegal demonstration” after her livelihood live in the television news to denounce the offensive in Ukraine, she was sentenced to a fine of 30,000 rubles (around 250 €) and released.

However, this fine is not directly devoted to the action of Marina Ovsyannikova but to a video which she broadcast to denounce the war in Ukraine.

She still risks prosecution in criminal prosecution liable to heavy prison sentence. The journalist risks up to 15 years in prison for the dissemination of “false information” on the army. The word “war” is also forbidden to be pronounced in Russia, both by the population and by the media.

“I do not recognize my guilt,” proclaimed Marina Ovsyannikova in the courtroom, stressing that she expressed her opposition to the conflict. “I remain convinced that Russia commits a crime (…) and that it is the aggressor of Ukraine,” she said.
