After a purge led by the Algerian authorities in the circles of the relatives of the ex-president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the Military Court of Blida has just paid many figures of the Bouteflika regime, of which generals who had been the subject of prosecution and arrest.
Thus, Generals Mohamed Mediene dit Toufik and Athmane Tartag dit Bachir, Saïd Bouteflika and Louisa Hannoune were acquitted this Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the opening of their trial, in the conspiracy against the State, reports TSA.
The two former heads of the Algerian intelligence services (ex-DRS), the brother and adviser to the depowed president Abdelaziz Bouteflika and the secretary general of the workers’ party were prosecuted for “conspiracy against the authority of the State and the Army” following a meeting held on March 27, 2019, in full popular uprising against the fifth term that the former Algerian head of state.
Arrested in May of the same year, they were sentenced in September to 15 years in prison. On appeal in February 2020, the sentences were confirmed, except for Louisa Hanoune, sentenced to 3 years in prison, including nine months firm. She was immediately released, having served her sentence.
In mid-November last, the Supreme Court accepted the cassation appeal introduced by the defense of the defendants and ordered the holding of a new trial before the same jurisdiction.
Although all defendants are acquitted, Said Bouteflika and Athmane Tartag, should not leave the prison. The first was charged in the case of the case of former justice minister Tayeb Louh and placed under mandate in the Istimraria TV channel intended to promote the fifth term.
Athmane Trtag was also placed under a warrant for non-compliance with the procedure during the surveys carried out by her services in the case of Ms. Maya, the alleged hidden daughter of Bouteflika, and that of one of the children of the former SG of FLN Djamel Ould Abbès.
