An earthquake of a magnitude of 5.2 struck this Friday, June 20, 2025 at 8:49 p.m. (local time) about 87 km south-east of Semnan, in the province of the same name, in Iran. The information was reported by the Euro-Mediterranean seismological center (EMSC).
The earthquake occurred at a moderately low depth of 35 kilometers under the epicenter. The first estimates concerning magnitude, precise location and depth could be revised in the coming hours, as seismologists analyze the data or other organizations publish their balance sheets.
A second report, issued by the citizen network of Raspberryshake seismographers, confirmed the same magnitude. The German Geosciences Research Center (GFZ) also reported an identical intensity shock.
According to preliminary seismic data, the earthquake would not have caused notable material damage. However, slight tremors would have been felt by many residents close to the epicenter.
