London brandishes the recognition of the Palestinian state as ultimatum in Israel

The United Kingdom will recognize Palestine in September, unless the Zionist entity takes concrete measures to put an end to the crisis in Gaza and engages on a two-state solution, Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned on Tuesday.

A decision conditioned by the end of the carnage in Gaza

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Tuesday to his government that the United Kingdom will recognize the state of Palestine in September 2025, unless the Zionist entity fulfills a series of political and humanitarian conditions.

Among the requirements: to put an end to the “appalling” situation in the Gaza Strip, reach a ceasefire, formally undertake not to annex the West Bank, and join a credible peace process for a solution to two states.

The announcement was made during a ministerial council exceptionally summoned in full summer break, a sign of the emergency that Starmer attaches to the Palestinian file.

Relaunch a peace process

Downing Street specifies that this position is part of a joint diplomatic initiative with other European capitals. It aims to revive a moribund peace process and increase the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, where the crisis is getting worse day by day.

The recognition of the Palestinian State would intervene before the General Assembly of the United Nations of September, which would make it a strong political signal on the international scene, especially since several other European countries are considering a similar approach.
