The National Rally (RN), a far -right party formerly called the National Front and its allies, came to the top of the first round of the anticipated legislative elections in France.

On the sidelines of the first round of the anticipated legislative elections in France, it is the National Rally (RN), which came first with almost 34% of the votes, according to first estimates, thus relegating the Macron camp to third position.

The left -wing alliance of the new Popular Front was positioned in second place (28.5% to 29.1%) while Emmanuel Macron’s camp obtained 20.5 to 21.5% of the vote, according to these first estimates.

The RN would obtain a large majority relating to the National Assembly, between 230 and 280 seats according to current projections (under the bar of the absolute majority at 289 deputies). The number of seats obtained by the various political blocks can still change with the many planned triangular (between 285 to 315 depending on estimates) and possible withdrawals.

Reacting to these results, President Emmanuel Macron called for a “large democratic and republican rally” in the second round against the RN while Prime Minister Gabriel Attal described the RN project “fatal” and declared that “our objective was clear: to prevent the RN from having an absolute majority”.

He called for the withdrawal of candidates from the presidential camp who arrived third in the constituencies where triangular will be played.

The French voted yesterday as part of the anticipated legislative elections decided after the dissolution by President Emmanuel Macron of the National Assembly on June 9. The second round will take place next Sunday.
