Taking part in the United Nations Summit on Food Systems +2, which is held in Rome, the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, delivered a speech calling the FAO to set up a strategic cereal reserve.
Kais Saied notably called the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to set up this strategic reserve which would be accessible in order to guarantee the means of subsistence.
He also wondered about famine while cereal production should reach an unprecedented level and cereal stocks worldwide, exceed the quantities put on sale on the markets. According to him, “cereals have become a weapon that harms developing countries”.
The United Nations Summit on Food Systems +2 must make it possible to make an inventory of sustainable initiatives that have emerged since the last edition in 2021 in order to make them available to all players in the food sector.
This summit must examine global agrifood systems two years after the latest edition. It will continue until Wednesday at the headquarters of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and will see the participation of 2,000 personalities from 160 countries.
