Kaïs Saïed calls for a clear deadline for elections

During the inter-Libyan dialogue which started this Monday, November 9 in Tunis on Monday, November 9, the President of the Kaïs Saïed Republic pleaded for a clear deadline for the holding of the elections in Libya allowing to hasten the reconstruction of this brother country.

“It is a historic moment, which leaves no one indifferent,” he said, saying that inter-Libyan conclave, is part of the efforts undertaken, for months, under the auspices of the UN organization, with a view to reaching a pacifist regulation in the Libyan crisis and establishing clear procedures and deadlines.

Saied stressed that Tunisia is proud to welcome this dialogue, which is held under the aegis of the United Nations support mission in Libya (Manul). “This dialogue will be the prelude to a new legitimacy resulting, exclusively, from the will of the Libyan people”.

Tunisia welcomes, from Monday, November 9, 2020, the Libyan political dialogue forum, held under the slogan “La Libya first”. A crucial and expected meeting to achieve reconciliation between the different parties and develop a roadmap for elections.

In total, 75 participants representing 13 Libyan factions will take part in this event: members of the Tobrouk Parliament, members of the High Council of State and the participants selected by the UN.

“Elections must be the ultimate goal here. We need a clear roadmap towards the elections in order to impose legitimacy of the various institutions, “said Stephanie Williams, an acting special representative of the United Nations Secretary General and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
