Thursday, September 18, 2025, the port authorities in Ravenna, on the Adriatic Sea, refused the entrance to two trucks loaded with explosives for the Israeli port in Haifa. The decision was made at the joint request of the mayor Alessandro Barattoni and the local government, in a context of union and workers’ mobilization against the war in Gaza.
A blockage supported by local authorities
The mayor of Ravenne confirmed that the cargo was intended for Israel and that he himself supported the initiative to block his access. This decision is part of a local desire not to contribute to the continuation of the conflict.
Growing European mobilization
The gesture of Italian dockers is part of a wave of similar actions across Europe. In France, at the port of Marseille-Fos, workers had already refused in June to load containers of military equipment for Haifa. Comparable movements have also taken place in Sweden and Greece, carried by unions denouncing their indirect involvement in the war.
