Italian diplomacy sent an official request to Israel on Wednesday to guarantee the security of the Pro-Palestinian flotilla on the way to Gaza. Participants claimed to have been targeted by a sea attack on Tuesday to Wednesday.
According to the press release from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Antonio Tajani was informed of the attack on the coast of Crete, recalling that the flotilla navigates in international waters. Several Italians, including parliamentarians, are on board the boats.
During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, several convoy ships were the target of attacks by drones, according to Wael Naouar, member of the coordination for joint action in favor of Palestine and participating in the resistance flotilla to break the blockade of Gaza.
A strict protection request
The Yulara and Ohuaila ships were affected, without causing victims or significant material damage. This is not the first time that the flotilla has been targeted: similar incidents had been reported during the docking of ships on the Tunisian coasts, without victims or official recognition on the part of Israel, despite several testimonies.
From New York, where he participated in the UN General Assembly, Antonio Tajani, via the Italian Embassy in Israel, reiterated his request to the Israeli government to guarantee the “absolute protection” of the participants. The press release insists that any intervention aimed at preventing the flotilla from approaching Gaza must respect international law.
