Israeli raids on ports and power plants in Yemen

The Israeli army has carried out strikes today against infrastructure in Hodeida, a region under the control of the Houthi rebels in western Yemen, according to the Al-Arabiya chain.

The Houthis, allies of Iran, Lebanese Hezbollah and Palestinian Hamas, opened a front against Israel in solidarity with the Palestinians of Gaza. On Saturday, they claimed the launch of a missile to Tel Aviv airport.

The Israeli army said that, “as part of a large -scale air operation, dozens of air force devices (…) have struck targets for military use of Houthis in the Ras Issa and Hodeida regions”.

According to an Israeli army spokesman David Avraham, the targets, including power plants and the sea port, were used by the Houthis for “the transfer of Iranian weapons and military equipment”. The strike was aimed at responding to recent attacks by Houthis against Israel.

The Houthis have intensified their attacks on Israel since the start of the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, triggered by the attack on Hamas on October 7, 2023. Last July, they led a drone attack on Tel Aviv which caused the death of a civilian.

In retaliation, Israel has struck infrastructure such as a power plant and fuel deposits in the port of Hodeida.
