Israel is continuing its offensive in occupied West Bank, with a new military foray into Jenine who left at least 10 people dead among the Palestinians.
The operation, launched three days ago, is described by the Israeli Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, as the application of the methods used during the assault on Gaza. According to him, this offensive marks a turning point in Israeli strategies in occupied West Bank.
Interested shots and explosions have shaken the Jenin refugee camp, and the Palestinian health services report at least four injured. The UN indicates that Israeli forces have used advanced weapons, including air strikes, on the camp, now “almost uninhabitable”. This massive operation threatens to break the fragile ceasefire observed in Gaza.
Jénine’s local authorities have announced that Israeli military bulldozers have cut all the roads leading to the refugee camp, and that the city’s government hospital was also isolated. In addition to the dead, several dozen injured have been identified, including children and medical workers, stressing the extent of repression.
The UN Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) expressed concerns, stressing that the situation in Jenin could quickly deteriorate and affect humanitarian work. The number of displaced people, estimated at 2,000 families, continues to increase, and the humanitarian situation worsens day by day.
The Israeli operation in the occupied West Bank intervenes in a context of continuous violence, and the Israeli authorities seem ready to pursue their relentless policy of repression, jeopardizing any perspective of peace in the region.
