In the UN, Russia accused of having caused a global food crisis
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Before the UN Security Council, representatives of several countries accused Russia of having caused a “global food crisis” or even of a risk of “famine” by having triggered a war against Ukraine.

The number two of American diplomacy Wendy Sherman said in this sense that the Russian president is responsible for this global food crisis “and he is the one who can arrest him”.

For his part, the French ambassador to the UN Nicolas de Rivière said that “Russia’s attack against Ukraine increases the risk of famine around the world. The populations of developing countries are the first affected ”.

Several countries around the world, including Tunisia, are currently experiencing great difficulties in ensuring their imports of basic products, especially cereals.

Indeed, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict will have a huge impact on the world and more particularly on Tunisia which could record a shortage of basic necessities, in particular cereals.

Tunisia imports more than 50% of its wheat needs, most of which comes from Ukraine. On the other hand, imports of wheat alone represent more than 51% of food imports in the country, according to an analysis of the United Nations Food and Agriculture (FAO).
