Pro-Palestinian activists are preparing to set off from Spain this Sunday as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, organized in particular by Freedom Flotilla Coalition, Sumud Convoy, and the Global Movement to Gaza, thus constituting the largest naval operation organized to date to try to break the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

Composed of dozens of boats loaded with humanitarian aid, the flotilla brings together hundreds of participants from more than 80 countries. The organizers call on the international community to put pressure on the Zionist entity in order to guarantee the success of their mission.

Part of the flotilla will go on August 31 from Barcelona, and then stop in other Mediterranean ports (including in Tunis, September 4). The crews will be made up of skippers, doctors, journalists, political leaders, etc., determined to carry out this mission.

Among the marking figures on board are the Swedish ecological activist Greta Thunberg as well as the Portuguese political leader Mariana Mortágua.

The name of the initiative, Sumud -which means “perseverance” in Arabic -reflects the will of the participants to highlight the humanitarian situation in Gaza, to claim freedom of movement for its inhabitants and to break the isolation of the Palestinian population by providing humanitarian aid and active solidarity.

It is also a question of breaking the media wall that surrounds Gaza and creating a united civil front capable of mobilizing networks and public opinion around the world.
