Despite Donald Trump’s statements saying that “no one will leave Gaza”, an Associated Press investigation reveals that the United States and Israel have led secret discussions with Sudan, Somalia and Somaliland to welcome displaced Palestinians.
These negotiations contradict the words of the American president, initially praised by Egypt, Jordan, Hamas and OLP as a rejection of any forced expulsion plan. A similar project aimed at moving Palestinians to Jordan and Egypt had already emerged in February, before being abandoned in the face of oppositions.
Khartoum would have categorically refused this proposal, while Mogadishu and Hargeisa denied having been consulted. American and Israeli sources nevertheless confirm the existence of these talks.
At the same time, Israel has created a “emigration department” within the Ministry of Defense to organize a “voluntary emigration” of the Palestinians. Washington would have offered diplomatic and financial advantages to potential host countries, including international recognition for Somaliland and economic aid for Sudan and Somalia.
This project recalls the forced exile of OLP in Tunisia in 1982. Tunisia and Algeria firmly condemned this initiative, seeing a violation of international law.
