Tuesday, January 7, gatherings took place in several cities in France to celebrate the disappearance of Jean-Marie Le Pen, an emblematic figure of the extreme right.
In Paris, the Place de la République saw a few hundred people in the early evening, among which floated flags from the new anti -capitalist party (NPA). The atmosphere was punctuated by songs, smoke bombs and fireworks, witnesses of a celebration tinged with political demands.
In the Parisian crowd, a sign proclaimed without detour: “this dirty racist is dead”. Some demonstrators have climbed on the central statue to sing anti -fascist slogans, while others chanted: “youth annoyed the National Front”. Lyon, for its part, was also the scene of similar festivities, including fireworks fire.
These demonstrations were reported by journalists from the Agency France-Presse (AFP), who described a militant mobilization marked by the symbolism and the expression of a clear opposition to the political heritage of Jean-Marie Le Pen.
