The French, German and Italian foreign ministers, this Thursday, March 25, 2021, made a common visit to Libya, in sight, to promote a unified position of the European Union with regard to the Libyan issue and to support recent political progress in this country.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Haiko Maas and Luigi Di Maio, arrived in Tripoli where they must meet Libyan officials of the government of national unity to discuss cooperation and examine the means to support the new government which must organize general elections on December 24.

This trip coincides with the summit of the 27 EU countries in Brussels, during which French President Emmanuel Macron planned to put the Libyan file on the table. He also coincides with the reopening of the French Embassy in Tripoli, closed since 2014.

The three leaders of diplomacy must speak, during this visit, with the head of the Libyan government, Abdelhamid Dbeibah and members of his government, as well as with the special envoy of the United Nations Jan Kubis.
