A flight of the French company Transavia linking Paris-Orly to Sfax-Thyna was urgently diverted to Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport, Monday January 5, 2026 in the afternoon. The information, reported by actu Lyon, confirms a first publication in the daily Le ProgrÚs.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737, was over the Saint-Ătienne region when it issued an alert signal in mid-flight. The pilot then triggered the emergency code 7700, used to signal a critical situation, before making an emergency landing on the Lyon tarmac.
Contacted, Transavia, a subsidiary of the Air France group, indicated that the decision to divert the plane had been taken âin accordance with the manufacturer’s procedures, the company’s instructions and in application of the precautionary principleâ.
Suspicious smoke
According to initial information, suspicious smoke was detected on board the aircraft. An element confirmed by the firefighters, immediately mobilized on the runway of Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport. Their intervention allowed the situation to be quickly brought under control. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew.
The flight was initially scheduled to land in Sfax at 5:25 p.m. It was ultimately canceled and postponed until the next day. The passengers were picked up and forced to spend the night in Lyon before boarding a new flight scheduled for Tuesday to Tunisia.
