Following the continuous deterioration of the security situation in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, and in response to the request of a Tunisian citizen to leave the country, the Tunisian embassies in Canada, the United States, Italy and the permanent mission in New York intensified their efforts by contacting the authorities of several countries in order to secure its transfer to a safe place far from the Haitian capital and its return to the country Press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians abroad.

“Thanks to the continuous efforts of our diplomatic mission in Ottawa, on April 7, 2024, in a first stage, the Tunisian citizen was evacuated aboard a Canadian helicopter, accompanied by several Canado-Haitian citizens, to the city of Haitian Cap, the safest in the north of Haiti. On April 10, 2024, he also received an entry visa in the Dominican Republic, allowing him to arrive on April 11, 2024 by land in the Dominican Republic. He is expected to leave the country in the coming days towards Tunisia via Paris, “said it.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians abroad has expressed thanks and gratitude for the rapid response of the Canadian authorities and their cooperation in the evacuation of the Tunisian citizen, as well as for the Haitian and Dominican authorities for having facilitated secure passage and transit procedures on their territory.

It should be mentioned in this regard that the ministry managed, during a first opportunity, to evacuate three Tunisian citizens on March 25, 2024 of Haiti in collaboration with the French authorities.

Haiti plunges into the unknown. At the end of February, the powerful Haitian gang leaders, who today control a large part of the capital Port-au-Prince, joined forces to attack police stations, prisons, airport, and sea port in order to push Prime Minister Ariel Henry to the exit.
